Mr Heiko Joerg Schick is a distinguished executive and leader with formidable accomplishments in the technology field. As the Chief Architect of Advanced Computing at Huawei Technologies, he has been at the helm of the HiSilicon team since January 2015. His core responsibilities include researching requirements and new technologies for cutting-edge server systems, managing engagement with academics and other partners, and hiring technical experts. With more than fifteen years of experience in technology and business, Mr Schick has held multiple high-level leadership roles.

Previously, Mr Schick served as the Team Lead at IBM Deutschland's Exascale Innovation Center and their Blue Gene Active Storage group. From January 2010 to January 2014, he conducted pioneering work in exascale computing and storage-embedded parallel processing. His tenure at IBM Research & Development also included roles as the Blue Gene/Q PCI Express Verification and Bring-up Lead and the Firmware Project and Bring-up Lead. His additional experience at IBM spanned various areas, including firmware and hardware development, I/O firmware development, processor firmware development, and Linux on System z evaluation.

A graduate of Albstadt-Sigmaringen University, Mr Schick earned his Diploma in Communications and Software Engineering in 2003. His thesis, "Concept, Design and Implementation of a Slimline Boot Firmware for Linux on Power Architecture," explored methods for packaging binary inside firmware for later execution via a small virtual machine. He received recognition for earning the highest grades in the graduating class 2004 and was honoured by the Philipp-Matthaeus-Hahn Donation.

While at IBM, Mr Schick also served as a Technical Consultant for Disaster and Humanitarian Relief with IBM Corporation Service Corps. He assisted in developing real-time flood maps in Manila, Philippines, working closely with humanitarian groups, research organizations, and local leaders to enhance disaster warning and response systems following Tropical Storm Ondoy (Ketsana) and Typhoon Pepeng (Parma) in late 2009.

Mr Schick's expertise spans multiple operating systems, including Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows, and various programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Forth, Perl, Bash, and Assembler. IBM has recognized his extensive software and firmware development work through awards like the Equity Award, the Bravo Award, and the Author Recognition Award. He also received the Excellence Award under the Environmental Excellence Category of the Asian CSR Awards and the First Patent Application Invention Achievement Award.

Since 2015, Mr Schick has been leading as Chief Architect in advanced computing and artificial intelligence at Huawei's Munich Research Center. He plays an integral role in a company that now boasts over 188,000 employees and operates in 170 countries.
